Ocean State Job Lot is a Net Zero Waste company—this means our recycling efforts outweigh our disposal efforts to landfills and we continue to improve our recycling efforts to one day send nothing to landfills.
Through our Renewable Energy initiative, we have plans to become a Net Zero Energy company by generating more renewable energy than the energy we consume. Solar projects have been introduced to the rooftops of some of our stores.
We aim to become a Net Zero Emissions company, and that will be achieved with an overall balance of gas emissions produced and taken out of the atmosphere. We continue to strive to keep new emissions being released into the atmosphere as low as possible.
Retail sustainability is…
Many things. Our sustainability process begins before we open a store. We avoid new construction carbon emissions by repurposing an existing, vacant retail space. The construction sector produces 1/30th of global waste, and it consumes 40% of global resources annually. OSJL is reducing its carbon footprint through sustainable construction practices.
OSJL is also reducing the waste that goes to landfills by purchasing closeouts, overruns, and excess inventory from other companies, giving those products another life.
