Have you ever thought of trying to put some sizzle into the traditional Thanksgiving Day? Well, of course, there’s always turkey, stuffing, potatoes, pumpkin pie, and other great food and fun. But how about some different ways of getting folks together for football, fall fun, and post-meal naps? Let Ocean State Job Lot help you plan a family and friends event, as well as the menu too!
Here are five fun tips for throwing the best Friendsgiving:
1. Potluck Power!
Take the stress out of cooking all by yourself by making it a potluck! Assign categories (sides, desserts, main dishes) or let everyone surprise you with their favorite Thanksgiving-inspired creation. Less cooking for you, more delicious variety for everyone! Plus, you may even be surprised by delicious delights you’ve never tried before. Ocean State Job Lot has some great international food to bring and whip up as well! Don’t forget to remind your guests that they can bring their food in disposable pans and plates from Job Lot, too! And if you need extra seating or tables, we’ve got them as well.
2. Theme it Up!
Go beyond just “Thanksgiving” with a fun theme! Think “Plaid & Pumpkin Spice,” “Retro Harvest,” or even “Friendsgiving Around the World.” Encourage costumes or themed dishes to make it extra memorable. The kids will like getting involved here. Maybe even hand out some prizes to the most creative dish or costume. Make sure you get a good mix of people to make it festive!

3. Game On!
Keep the good times rolling with some Friendsgiving-themed games. Charades, trivia, or even a friendly board game competition can add a lively touch and create some hilarious memories. If you’re truly into the football games, try to predict the scores of the games BEFORE they’re played.
4. Cozy Vibes Only
Create a warm and inviting atmosphere with comfy blankets, festive decorations, and a killer playlist. Think autumn scents, soft lighting, and plenty of space for everyone to relax and mingle. Don’t forget that turkey day tablecloth for the main and kiddie table as well. There’s a lot out there, including some to color, play games, and write little notes on.

5. Gratitude Jar
While it’s a party, Friendsgiving is also about appreciating your chosen family. Set out a “Gratitude Jar” where everyone can write down what they’re thankful for. Read them aloud at the end of the night for a heartwarming touch. Maybe even write them in a journal to be kept for future memories.
The idea is to be together and enjoy the time you share. Happy Thanksgiving from our Ocean State Job Lot family to yours!
